
The Leader made the remarks addressing thousands of people in the holy city of Qom in a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the bloody uprising of the religious people of the city to the oppressing rule of the former Iranian dictator Mohammadreza Shah Pahlavi.
'The only way to destroy enemies' hostility is to disappoint them,' said the Leader, urging the Iranian officials to strengthen national power.
'When we talk about enemy it is not just a slogan,' Ayatollah Khamenei said referring to major enemies of the 'independent and progressive' Islamic Iran as the 'US, UK, international capitalists and the Zionists.'
The Leader said that London is planning to impose new restrictions and sanctions on Iran in the post-JCPOA era.
It is also seeking to train and arm its agents in the region, including in Iran, to assault the Iranian nation and its Islamic system, added the Leader.
Noting that the UK-affiliated circles are pursuing their goals in the region, mostly disintegration of regional states including Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Libya, the Leader said, 'They say the time is over for a united Iraq, Syria, Libya and Yemen, but they never mention Iran as they are afraid of the Iranian public opinion.'
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the British government as the 'old worn-out colonialist' that has once again came to the Persian Gulf region to regain its interests with the help of its regional allies.
'It (London) claims that Iran is a threat while it is the real threat itself,' said the Leader.
On December 7, British Prime Minister Theresa May attended the summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council held in Bahrain where she, made some anti-Iran remarks saying that London and its allies must work together to counter what she claimed to be “Iran’s aggressive regional actions.”
