Iran, China archeologists start joint Burnt City explorations

According to a report by Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) the explorations are expected to last one month.

The report quoted Head of the archeology team Rouhollah Shirazi as saying that most of the explorations in this season would be conducted in the residential sector.

Shirazi was also quoted as saying that the explorations were aimed at finding evidence on the industrial and business activities in the Bronze and Gunmetal eras in the area.

Pointing to the fact that industrial and business activities in the Bronze and Gunmetal eras were usually conducted in specialized forms in Sistan plain, Shirazi said efforts will be aimed in this season at finding out answers to the questions in this regard.

Sadeq Tappeh (Hill) is an oval enclosure in the dimensions of 150x 200 meters and is located 20 kilometers west of the Burnt City. The hill is one of the most important and highest satellite hills of the Burnt City and its height is maximum 6 meters above the ground level.

The Burnt City, also spelled as Shahr-e Sukhteh, is an archaeological site of a sizable Bronze Age urban settlement, located in Sistan and Baluchistan Province, the southeastern part of Iran, on the bank of the Helmand River, near the Zahedan-Zabol road.

In July 2014 it was placed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
