Japan calls for using potential scientific capacities of Iran for cooperation

In the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 13th World Assembly of Science and Technology in Kyoto, Japan, Matsuno underlined Iran's role in the area of international science and pointed to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries last year.

He applauded the presence of the Iranian delegation in the 13th conference and called for efforts to implement the MoU.

Farhadi also referred to the importance of the conference, and said that such gathering would have effective outcome in the development of science and technology.

He also proposed a committee to be established to activate expert sections to consider and facilitate content of the signed MoU, which it was accepted by the Japanese side.

Iran's Ambassador to Japan Reza Nazar Aahari was attending the meeting as well.

Farhadi, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Kyoto on Saturday evening.

He met with counterparts from Turkey, Thailand as well as minister without portfolio in science and technology affairs of Japan on Sunday.

Farhadi is to meet with counterparts from Malaysia, Qatar and Senegal as well as president of STS.

Science and Technology in Society Forum (STS) was established in year 2004 as an non-governmental organization and now 81 persons are members of the central council of STS from 28 countries, including Iran.
