Unwise remarks to further deepen gaps in region: Spokesman

He rejected the Arab League foreign minisers’ statement on three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Lesser and Greater Tunbs and said such attitudes will encourage gaps among countries.

He said the statement issued at the closing of the Arab League foreign ministers meeting in Cairo reveals only political fanaticism and is interpreted as interference in Iran’s domestic affairs.

The spokesman went on to stress Iran’s lawful and legitimate rights within its territories and vigorously condemned and rejected such claims about the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf.

He further highlighted Iran’s basic policies regarding the Persian Gulf littoral countries which was to respect cordial and friendly ties, promote mutual respect and respect non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

In its Thursday night emergency meeting, the Arab League foreign ministers endorsed the UAE claims over three Iranian islands.

Qasemi had on Tuesday dismissed the 'meddlesome' statement of Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Gheit in Bahrain about the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf.

Qasemi advised the Arab League secretary general to study history and geography of the region.

'Repetition of such wrong statements have not had and will not have any impact on the existing historical, geographical and legal status of the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf. The islands are integral part of Iranian territory.'

'To have a better understanding of realities of the Persian Gulf region, it will be appropriate to spend more time at least on studying history and geography of the region,' he added.
