Expert: Iran-Russia defense ties important for regional security

'Iran can play an important role in the region with having efficient defense capabilities and in convergence with Russia, the two countries can benefit from abundant advantages for meeting the national and regional privileges,' Ivashev, former head of Russian Defense Ministry's international cooperation affairs said.

He noted that because Russia has procured major part of weapons of Iran's armed forces and export of warfare and Russian equipment in the near future will be resumed within the framework of agreements and the two countries should be ready for closer ties in this regard in the near future.

'Now the Russian leaders are determined to broaden all-out ties with Iran as an important neighboring country and a powerful role-player in the region and the Iranian statesmen have such reciprocal approach which has created the basis of the strategic partnership,' Ivasehv added.
