Fajr Int’l Film Festival; opportunity to share view

Fajr International Film Festival, which began on April 17 and lasts until April 25 this year, is one of the professional and serious circles for domestic and foreign artists and filmmakers who seek to share their works and views these days.

Jamshid Gorgin, a veteran film and television series actor and a television host , in an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) elaborated on the charasteristics of the event. He is a member of the House of Cinema. For some time, he has been deliberately separated from the acting space, watching the festival films.

** Cinema is not apart from community

Explaining this year festival's differences with the past years, Gorgin noted, “Before the revolution, we also had a festival that was called Tehran International Film Festival, and in the last festival I had a movie called 'Malakut' ( Heaven) directed by Khosrow Haritash and actors such as Ezzatollah Entezami and Behrooz Vosouqi played in the film and the famous story of 'Bahram Sadeqi' was used and adopted for the film-script.

He went on to say that the film was screened and the honorary diploma was awarded as the best film in festival of 1977.

'There are several known cinematographers who are always present and are responsible, working and making film at different places,' he said, adding, 'And this is a kind of repetition. That's why it is very encouraging and worthwhile when it comes to a movie by young director, such as Nima Javedi, director of the film 'Indian' is worth to watch.'

** Our films must have a buyer

Gorgin expressed in explaining the need to compete the Iranian movies in the world’s cinema, 'Except for the works of Asghar Farhadi and some of the festivals that buy some of the works of experimental cinema, I do not believe Iranian movies have buyers abroad or be screened abroad. Our cinema is not a buyer. Neighbors such as Syria and Iraq, and some of our neighbors may buy something from us, but the industrialized countries do not pay much attention to this cinema, and we have to see these realities. I think perhaps the main reason for the absence of prominent films or filmmakers in Iran is the issue of sanctions.'

The veteran actor emphasized that 'So time cannot be considered as the factor of success, since the passage of time alone is not important and time is important when it comes to change and improve quality. The film is the same, but I believe that if There were no limit or red lines like many other arenas in the cinema, which could have been much better space, because in this situation many things cannot be featured and made, and there are such protests and problems, but I hope that one day The Fajr International Film Festival will be among the world's most prestigious festivals. '

'We are looking forward to this happening and growing, and given the talents that young people have, and sometimes the amazing films they make, they can be effective, and this potential will be extended to others as well. That is, many young people may be in this situation, but because they do not have the investor and the provider, they will remain open to show themselves. I hope the Fajr Film Festival, which is now in its 37th years, will continue to be a cultural envoy to improve the quality of our films and issue them. '

** The role should be effective

He added, 'I think both myself and the audience have the expectation to watch something new.' It's not enough to play a role as father and advise my daughters and sons.”
