Iran, Afghanistan hold political consultation meeting

Several high-ranking officials of the two courtiers including visiting Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai attended the meeting.

The two sides discussed ways to eliminate obstacles hindering expansion of bilalteral relations and cooperation in different fields including promotion of mutual trade, economic cooperation, legalizing the stay of Afghan refugees in Iran, implementing the trilateral transit agreement of Chabahar and TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia), completing the railway project between the Iranian city of Khaf and the Afghan city of Herat, expanding regional and international cooperation related to Afghanistan as well as increasing educational cooperation.

On Wednesday (August 3), Khalil Karzai of Afghanistan, who is visiting Iran at the head of a political delegation, discussed issues of mutual interest in a meeting with Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour.

The two also called for expanding of all-out cooperation in political, security, military, economical and cultural arenas as well as counter-terrorism efforts.
