EC endorses bill on amendment to anti-money laundering law

Gholam Reza Mesbahi Moqaddam added on Saturday that new amendments have been made on the bill.

He continued, “Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Chairman of the Parliamentary Judicial Committee Heydar Malekshahi on behalf of the Parliament and Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Farhad Dejpasand and s Vice President in legal affairs Laya Joneidi on behalf of the government attended the (EC) meeting.

The bill on amendments to the Anti-Money Laundering Law which was proposed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance was approved at November 8, 2017 meeting of the cabinet. The bill later was passed at the parliament and sent to the Guardian Council for final approval.

However, the Guardian Council returned the bill to the parliament after raising some objections.

The Parliament, by insisting on its own law, sent the bill to the Expediency Council which resolves the differences between the Parliament and the Guardian Council.

Of the four Financial Action Task Force (FATF)-related drafts, two laws on the amendment of the Anti-Money Laundering Law and the Terrorism Financing Act have received final approval.
