Baku will support IRNA’s candidacy for OANA presidency

In a meeting with Managing Director of IRNA Seyyed Zia Hashemi, AzerTac chief Aslanov added that chairing OANA is Iran’s right and IRNA is capable of running the organization for three years following South Korea's Yonhap.

“Clear example of IRNA’s capability is successfully holding of OANA Board Meeting in Tehran, as it is being run by a person from scientific community and this is a strong point,” he said.

OANA has gained a remarkable position in the world, as it has been successful since it was set up 57 years ago, he said.

The IRNA chief, for his part, described AzerTac management of OANA as acceptable, saying that OANA can play a crucial role in today’s world which is suffering from inequality in quick dissemination of news.

Welcoming Aslanov’s proposal for IRNA to take the helm of the OANA following Yonhap, Hashemi voiced readiness to take over presidency of the organization.

Chaired by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the OANA meeting is scheduled to be held from September 3-5.

OANA was set up in 1961 with the aim of facilitating information dissemination among regional states and currently 44 news agencies from 35 countries are members of the bloc.

Managing directors and chief executive officers of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) have arrived in Tehran to participate at the 43rd Executive Board Meeting of the Asian media alliance.

The managing directors and the CEOs of 14 OANA news agencies, including Oman's ONA, Qatar's QNA, Mongolia's Montsame, Kazakhstan's Kazinform, Azerbaijan Republic's Azertac, South Korea's Yonhap, Japan's Kyodo, Vietnam's VNA and Indonesia's Antara arrived in the Iranian capital on Sunday.

Aslan Aslanov, OANA President along with Youssef Ibrahim Abdulrahman Al Maleki General Manager of Qatar News Agency and VNA Director General Nguyễn Đức Lợi are among the first to arrive in Tehran at the head of media delegations.

CEOs of four other OANA news agencies are scheduled to arrive in the Iranian capital within next hours.
