The quake occurred at 8:33 hours local time (4:03 GMT), said the managing director of the provincial crisis management office.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Abdol Rahman Shahnavazi said that the epicenter of the tremor was registered at 79 km of Zahedan, 11 km deep underground.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
