Since 1982, the festival has been held at national (feature films) and international (animation films) levels and in various parts of the country including Tehran (six editions), Isfahan Province (18 editions), Kerman Province (one edition) and Hamedan Province (five editions).
In 2017, the Cinema Organizations of Iran and Isfahan Municipality signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for holding the festival in this historical province for a five-year period.
The festival is also one of the oldest cinematic events in the world. Making children familiar with cinema, facilitating their presence in cinema and watching the films related to their age group are among the main goals of this festival.
Iran’s Children and Youth Festival has always been regarded as an important and influential event during its 30-round period and the Iranian cultural officials have stressed the significance of holding such events.
In fact, this cinematic event is considered as the most important cinematic event after Fajr Film Festival which introduces the Iranian cinema across the world.
Over the years, the International Children's and Youth Film Festival has had a positive impact on Iranian cinema in general and on the cinema in particular.
The festival has paved the way for introducing various films to the artistic circles inside and outside of the country and has also encouraged several filmmakers to produce films for children and youth.
Presided by Alireza Reza Dad, the 31st edition of International Film Festival for Children and Youth is slated for August 30- September 5 in Isfahan Province.
