5-magnitude quake in SE Iran causes no damage

Deputy governor general for coordinating developmental affairs, Seyyed Mostafa Ayatollahi-Mousavi said that the quake caused no damage because it occurred in deeper layers and in deserts around Ravar.

According to a report by seismology center affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 21:17:21 hour local (16:47 GMT) time at the depth of 14 kilometers with its epicenter being registered at 31.45 degrees longitude and 57.79 degrees latitude.

Ravar city is considered a quake-prone region in Kerman province.

Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, as it straddles several major fault lines that cover at least 90% of the country. Some of the quakes which hit different parts of Iran have been deadly and destructive, causing heavy damage to life and property.
