Rouhani: Iran’s interests in JCPOA should be ensured precisely

In a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel late on Thursday, he added that Iran’s interests in JCPOA-related issues such as sales of oil, gas and petrochemicals, banking ties should be clearly determined and safeguarded.

The issues which can help preserve the JCPOA should be explored in a multiple-week opportunity and during meetings between foreign ministers and expert groups of Iran and European states, President Rouhani said.

Congratulating Merkel on her reelection as German chancellor, Iranian president described Tehran-Berlin ties as friendly and constructive.

“We will welcome further development of bilateral relations in the new tenure,” he said.

Pointing to Germany’s constructive and crucial role in the talks leading to the JCPOA, President Rouhani described US unilateral pullout as a move out of inexperience contravening international regulations, adding violating a deal confirmed by the United Nations Security Council resolution will surely have adverse consequences.

Hailing Iran-Germany cooperation in regional issues, Rouhani said that Iran has constantly tried to deescalate in the region, as it never welcomes creating tensions.

Merkel, for her part, regretted US pullout of the JCPOA, saying the issue is a problem that should be dealt with logically.

She reaffirmed that EU will continue to remain committed to the deal, urging Iran to do the same.

Appreciating President Rouhani for his congratulations, she said that preserving JCPOA is of high significance for Europe.

Merkel also called for promoting dialogue between Iran and Germany on regional developments.
