Greek protesters urge end to crimes against Syrian people

The ralliers gathered in the main squares of the city at the invitation of non-governmental organizations, chanting slogans in support of the Syrian nation and condemnation of the overnight attack on the country.

Greek police said about 6,000 to 7,000 people took part in a rally and march in central Athens to protest the US-led missile attack against Syria.

Police vehicles barricaded access to the embassies, and there was a heavy police presence. Protesters left peacefully.

The US, Britain and France launched joint airstrikes on Syria earlier Saturday in response to a suspected chemical attack on civilians on April 7.
