Iran, Germany urge diplomatic settlement of Syrian crisis

During the phone talk, Zarif condemned any use of chemical weapons in Syria, underlining the necessity for impartial and international investigation into the issue.

He also warned about risks of any military actions under false excuses against regional peace and stability.

Iran’s missile defense program and regional developments were among other topics the two ministers discussed during their phone conversation with both emphasizing that Iran’s missile program has nothing to do with the Iran nuclear deal, officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Stressing the need for all parties to remain committed to their obligations under the deal, he also called for Europe to put pressure on the US to comply with the landmark deal.

Denouncing US wrong policies regarding pouring all types of weapons into the region, supporting terrorists and action against Yemeni people, Zarif also said that such policies are root cause of instability and insecurity in the region.

Zarif also congratulated Maas on his appointment as German foreign minister and wished him success.
