Speaking at the Atlantic Council on Thursday, Gérard Araud said that the US and its European allies should discuss the possibility of a political transition in Syria with the aim of ending the seven-year crisis in the country.
He said, “The goal of the West should be political engagement with Russia, Turkey, [and] Iran with a view of political transition.”
The comments on boosting diplomacy with Iran and Russia comes a few days after the US President Donald Trump threatened Russia that it should be ready for the missiles that Washington will fire at Syria in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack near Damascus. He has blamed the alleged strike on Syria.
