Veep puts dollar rate at 4,200 Tomans as of Tuesday

At the end of an extraordinary meeting of Government’s Economic Headquarters presided over by President Hassan Rouhani to discuss currency fluctuations, he ensured economic activists as well as people from all walks of life that their currency needs would be met at the price of 4,200 Tomans as of Tuesday.

They should not worry about meeting their currency needs at all, he said.

Setting up stable economy is one of the responsibilities of the government, Jahangiri said, noting that one of the major achievements of the 11th government is economic stability encompassing cutting down inflation rate and a unified foreign exchange rate.

Unfortunately, some events happened in recent days, raising concern among the public and economic activists and threatening economic stability as one of the government’s major achievements, he said.

Referring to the enemies’ efforts, Americans in particular in post-JCPOA era, to present an unstable image of the Iranian economy to discourage economic cooperation with Iran, Jahangiri said, “Fortunately, we have concluded deals worth billions of dollars with various foreign governments to provide finance for Iran.”

A huge volume of foreign resources are moving towards Iran and under such a situation currency fluctuations are not natural, he said, blaming non-economic and unjustifiable elements for the situation.

“Under such circumstances, we cannot allow the country’s economic situation to be disrupted,” he said.

“Over the past five years, the amount of foreign exchange supply exceeded the demand and at times, we had even surplus,” he said.

Jahangiri said that the government is determined to ensure the people that it is able to preserve the country's economic stability and certainty.
