Iran, Iraq border guards sign MoU

The MoU dealing with fight against smuggling of contraband goods and maintaining border security was signed in Iraqi border terminal of Sheyb. In the meeting, the two sides underlined procedural unity and solidarity among border guards in the region, establishment of order and security in border line, fight against smuggling and prevention of illegal crossing of the border by the citizens of both countries citizens.

The commanders of Iranian and Iraqi border guards met with each other several times in the past year to facilitate the visits of Iranian pilgrims to Islamic holy shrines in Iraq.
Southwestern province of Khuzestan has two official border crossings with Iraq.
Meanwhile, governors general of two provinces of Khuzestan, in Iran, and Missan in Iraq have signed several MoUs on mutual cultural, economic and educational cooperation over the past one decade.
