UN chief issues condolences over Iran deadly air crash

'The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic airplane accident today near Yasuj, Iran,' Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN chief said.

'The Secretary-General extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran,' the statement added.

An ATR passenger plane belonging to Aseman Airline crashed close to Semirom, south of Isfahan province, on Sunday when it was flying from Tehran to Yasouj.

All 59 passengers and 6 crew members of the plane are feared dead in the incident.
