Iran condemns terrorist attack in Kazakhstan

The terrorist operation in Kazakhstan showed the vulnerability of Central Asia to terrorist activities, Hossein Jaberi Ansari said.

The spokesman underlined the necessity for promoting cooperation among regional states to adopt a comprehensive and integrated approach to address the issue of extremism and its ideological and political origins.

At least 17 people, including 11 terrorists, were killed during a series of attacks in the northwestern Kazakh city of Aktobe in the oil-rich country on Sunday.

The attackers killed three civilians and three security officers and wounded scores more, but were repelled in a counter-terrorism operation.

Eleven assailants were killed and seven more captured.

Aktobe, a city of 400,000 near the Russian border, was the site of the first suicide bombing in Kazakhstan's history in 2011.
