Iranian karate team grabs 1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronzes in World Champs

Iranian karateka Barbod Sedaqat in the weight category of – 76 kg defeated his rival from Morocco in the final match and received Iran's first medal.

He had overpowered opponents from Georgia, Kosovo, Bolivia and Egypt to advance the semi-final match.

In the semi-final stage, he defeated Russia and reached the final match.

In + 76 kg weight category, Majid Nikoo Hemmat hit the Canadaian karateka in his first match and overpowered his Greek rival in the second fight.

After defeating the Russian fighter in the third match, he overshined the Egyptian athlete.

During the semi-final stage, he hit Spain 3-0 and advanced the final match.

In the final match, Iranian karateka was overpowered by his Japanese rival and received a silver medal.

Iranian fighter in the weight category of – 61 kg defeated his French rival in the third place play-off.

He had also won the game against rivals from Slovenia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Chile.

However, in the semi-final match, he was overpowered by Azeri fighter.

In the female team kata, Iranian squad including Yegane Shahpari, Golnaz Shahzeidi and Erfaneh Massah defeated rivals from Italy, Croatia and Greece and advanced semi-final match.

In the semi-final match, the Iranian team was overpowered by Egypt but in the third place play-off match, they defeated Serbia and received a bronze medal.

The 2017 X WKF Junior, Cadet and U21 Championships is underway in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain.
