Iranian MP urges Iran Deal parties to help preserve accord

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency, Ramezanali Sobhani, Head of Iran-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group, praised the decision by Russian lawmakers to prepare a draft bill to urge the US congressmen importance of staying in the July 2015 nuclear agreement between Tehran and the major world powers, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

'It was a very due decision taken by the Russian lawmakers,' Sobhani said.

He said the JCPOA is a multilateral agreement backed by the United Nations Security Council, so all countries involved in the deal should be committed to the agreement.

The move by the Russian congress to safeguard the JCPOA, could be considered as a role model for other countries to follow suit, the Iranian lawmaker said.

Sobhani said that when the UNSC or other the legislative bodies affiliated to the United Nations ratify a law, all countries are obliged to fully implement the law and regulations.

He also urged the parliaments of other countries to exert more pressure on the US Senate to preserve the nuclear deal.

According to Russian news agency RIA Novosti, Lawmakers in the upper house of the country's parliament are set to call on their colleagues in the US Congress and other Western legislatures to do all in their power to help protect the multilateral Iran nuclear deal, which they say is under threat by US President Donald Trump.
