
According to the seismological center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 3:54 hours local time (0:24 GMT Monday) in an area located at 57.10 degrees longitude and 27.86 degrees latitude and in the depth of 20 kilometers.
There is no immediate report on possible casualties or damages.
Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth's crust, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
