Archeologists discover 10 Burials in northern Iran

The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT), quoted Mostafa Dah Pahlevan as saying this year it was decided to focus on the exploration of the newly-found cemetery in order to present a sound chronology and develop a better understanding of the burial methods in the aforementioned periods.

After 45 days of exploration we reached important results and in the entire trench we obtained evidence from one or a number of adobe-stratigraphy structures, he said.

The archaeologist considered existence of a big adobe-stratigraphy structure in an Iron Age cemetery as very specific and ambiguous and said the burials were made in three layers in the adobe structure.

In the peripheral and lower spaces of the adobe structure we obtained evidence in the urn and dustbin textures of over 10 burials which most probably belong to the later periods of this adobe structure, he added

The archaeologist also referred to the discovery of evidence of the burial of the embryo and infants under two years old inside crock and in the adobe covered space in the cemetery, he noted.

Dah Pahlevan said the cemetery in the period after the abandonment of Qarah Tappeh had been hit by a severe flood and spaces inside the graves and objects inside them have been damaged.
