Iraq says Iran closes border with KRG upon Baghdad request

'Iraqi Federal Government's demand is in line with the measures taken to control border crossings and Iraqi Kurdistan Region airports,' Iraq Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjub said.

Based on the reports, the closed borders are Bashmakh, Parviz-Khan and Haji Omran.

The measures aim to guarantee Iraq's unity and security, he added.

Despite opposition by the Iraqi federal government and regional states, as well as international warnings, the KRG referendum was held on Sep 25 in some northern Iraqi provinces, including Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and some disputed regions like Kirkuk.
