Russia dismisses US push for inspecting Iran’s military sites

According to Russian media, Director of Russian Foreign Ministry Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Mikhail Ulyanov rejected on Friday the US Permanent Representative to the UN Nikki Haley criticism over Russia position on investigating Iran’s military sites.

The US claim about Russia on expanding IAEA’s inspections over Iran’s military locations is an example of Superficiality, Ulyanov was quoted as saying by the Russian newspaper, Izvestia.

Such remarks by the US officials indicate their attempts to impose their views on other parties to the 2015 nuclear deal including the IAEA, he added.

Ulyanov further noted that there is no reason for the IAEA to raise mandatory inspection of Iran or any other country’s military sites.

According to Safeguards Agreement and Additional Protocol, the IAEA is allowed to ask for inspection of Iran’s non-nuclear sites provided that offer necessary reasons for that, Russian official said.

US officials including President Donald Trump have adopted anti-JCPOA policies in recent weeks to cover up US non-compliance with its commitments under the deal.

Trump has railed against the deal frequently since coming to power in January.

Under the landmark deal, officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran got relief for international sanctions in exchange for constraints on its nuclear program.
