Iran nuclear deal to remain: Georgian envoy

The nuclear agreement is good, not only for the European Union but also for the US, Georgia's Ambassador to Tehran Loseb Chakhvashvili told IRNA.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council signed the nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), under which Iran accepted to curb its nuclear activities in return of sanctions relief.

Speaking on the multi-lateral nature of the nuclear deal, and the possibility of Washington's withdrawal from it, the Georgian ambassador pointed to the eight reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verifying Iran's compliance with the JCPOA and said, 'The IAEA has always published positive reports on Iran's nuclear activities, so, the international community would be on Iran's side.'

Trump in his speech at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday claimed that the nuclear deal 'provides cover for the eventual construction of a nuclear program'.

He also called the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), 'one of the worst' deal the US has ever signed.

The President has frequently vowed that the US would step back from the deal

Chakhvashvili also described the Iran-Georgia ties at the 'highest' level, and said that there was no particular challenge on the path of the bilateral relations.
