Europe remains committed to JCPOA: Iran envoy in UK

In a note on his Instagram account on Thursday, he dealt with the last session of JCPOA Joint Commission, saying that European Union's Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini who chaired the ministerial session of 5+1 Group summed up her views as follows:

1 – All in session accepted that all parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have implemented their sides of the deal. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have for eight times verified Iran’s compliance with the deal, with the latest being 10 days ago.

2 – JCPOA encompasses Iran’s nuclear issue and the other issues at stake today fall outside the deal and they should be discussed in their due times. The US is currently evaluating its Iran policies and this has nothing to do with JCPOA and its results are irrelevant to the deal.

3 – JCPOA has done well and yielded good results. Under the conditions, the world faces great crises such as nuclear crisis, killing JCPOA is not acceptable.

4 - JCPOA is not a bilateral deal or a one involving six or seven members; rather it is part of UN Security Council resolution and therefore, all UN members are committed to its full implementation.

5 – We cannot say anything about changing the JCPOA and it cannot be renegotiated. I stress that issues outside the deal should be dealt with in suitable places. JCPOA prevented a nuclear crisis and a likely military conflict and we should never ignore the issue. Why do we change a deal which works well and bears fruits?

6 – Nobody except IAEA can judge Iran’s compliance with commitments under the deal, as it has maintained that JCPOA is being implemented well.

7 – JCPOA talks took 12 years and any word in it from its title to the text and its annexes have been negotiated carefully. JCPOA also includes a mechanism to settle its parties’ complaints. Therefore, no country can kill the deal unilaterally.

As the EU High Representative, Mogherini said that EU remains committed to uphold JCPOA and continue its implementation, irrespective of any decision to be taken by the US.

“We all believe that the good results of this agreement can help solving other crises,” Mogherini concluded.
