Diplomat: Ample opportunities for Tehran-Accra cooperation

Talking to IRNA, Maleki said, 'Political relations between Iran and Ghana have long precedence. The ties were established in 1974 and Iran's Embassy opened officially in Accra in 1983. The two countries have good cooperation and convergence in international forums, especially the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement.'

He said for the time being diplomatic ties between the two sides are at the highest level and visit of then Ghana president to Tehran in February 2015, the visit of Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the accompanying delegation to Ghana in August 2016, the visit of then vice-president Mohammad Shariatmadari to Ghana to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the country's president in January 2016 and the visit to Tehran by Ghana's first vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia at the head of a high-ranking delegation, comprising ministers of agriculture, economic development, information, acting foreign minister, vice-speaker and other executive officials to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in August 2017 all indicate high level of political relations between the two countries.'

Elsewhere in his speech, Maleki said Iran has plans for presence of Iranian companies and industries in Ghana.

He added that seven MoUs for economic and industrial cooperation in the fields of gas, petrochemicals, medicine, mining, dam building, cement plant construction and cacao plant have been signed.

Maleki added that it will pave the way for more active presence of Iranian private sector in Ghana and raise export of the goods and technical and engineering services to the ccounry.
