US sanctions breaches Iran nuclear deal: Iran Envoy to Cuba

'US sanctions dubbed as CAATSA is against the [nuclear] agreement and a hostile act,' Kambiz Sheikh Hassani said in an exclusive interview with the Havana based Canal Caribe.

He made the remarks while commenting on the US latest anti-Iran sanctions imposed on the country’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) under the CATTSA.

The sanctions are imposed on IRGC since Wednesday (November 1) after the US listed the Iranian popular force as a terrorist organization based on unfounded allegations.

The Iranian envoy stressed that the international community should express its strong opposition with the US unilateralism.

Referring to the support for the landmark nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), by all its signatories, except the US, the Iranian ambassador said, 'US is completely isolated in this regard.'

Donald Trump in August gave the go-ahead for imposition of wide-ranging sanctions against Iran, Russia and North Korea by signing a law known as CAATSA.

CAATSA, by enhancing US sanctions against the three countries, unprecedented over the past five years, targets Iran's ballistic missile program, while it prepares the legal basis for sanctioning the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on allegations of its support for terrorism.

By placing new sanctions on Iran, Washington is acting in defiance of the JCPOA.

Sheikh Hassani said that US is against independent countries such as Iran and Cuba.

Iran and Cuba are examples of two countries that have been under US pressures for their independent policies, he said.
