President visits southern province to discuss region’s environmental problems

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, the President said he came to the province to review the situation cased by the problem of particle pollution and give necessary orders to solve it.

He said his government and local officials would do their best to control particle pollution to settle those parts of the problem which are caused by sources inside the country.

As for the external sources of the problem, the President said resolving the particle pollution which come from other countries including Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia, requires regional and international measures.

Later in the day, President Rouhani toured Ahvaz gas sweetening refinery as well as the city's wastewater treatment plant.

The new power generation of the Ahvaz wastewater treatment plant came on stream at the presence of President Rouhani.

The President also inspected the region’s electricity conductors which were damaged during the recent dust pollution in the province.

Recent particle pollution in Khuzestan caused trouble for people and cut their access to water and electricity in some parts of the province for several days.
