President: Iran Army enjoying public confidence, independence

The president made the remarks in a meeting with Army commanders on the 38th anniversary of the takeover of US embassy in Tehran by Iranian revolutionary students.

Noting that the founder of Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini believed that military independence was one of the main indicators of the country's independence, Rouhani said that 'maintenance of the [Islamic] establishment, the country's independence and territorial integrity are constitutionally among the main functions of the Army'.

Both the Iranian government and nation are confident about the Army, the president said, adding, 'The government will continue to support the armed forces.'
