Majlis speaker urges countries to stand united in support of Palestine

He made the remarks in a meeting with Oman Consultative Assembly Speaker Khalid Hilal bin Nasser al-Mawali on the sidelines of the Sixth International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada (Uprising) which ended on Wednesday evening issuing a 24-point final statement.

The statement urged the necessity of putting an end to seven decades of Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

It also stressed the need for a collective effort of all Muslim countries to defend legitimate rights of the Palestinian nation.

Larijani said it is clear to all regional states that Oman, under Sultan Gaboos, is pursuing a wise stance vis-à-vis major regional developments and it is expected to seriously follow up major regional issues including the situation in Palestine.

Manners of certain regional states lead to a rise in chaos in the region but Oman has always been adopting a well-calculated and rational approach, Larijani said.

Meanwhile, Al-Mawali, hailed successful holding of the Intifada conference in Tehran, saying although certain countries have not acted appropriately regarding the issue of Palestine so far, the Tehran conference was a successful initiative to this end.

“We wish all Palestinian groups would achieve unity and solidarity to find their real strength,” said the Omani official.

He also stressed the need for promoting cooperation between Iran and Oman, saying that the two capitals enjoyed good mutual cooperation in recent years and it is hoped to be further promoted in the future.
