Iran: US should fulfill JCPOA commitments

'The United States has some commitments under the deal between Iran and G5+1 nations that should be fulfilled,' Qasemi said.

'National laws of countries cannot be an excuse to escape the principle of international responsibilities,' he added.

Condemning ratification of an 'illegal and insulting' anti-Iranian sanction bill in the US House of Representatives, Qasemi said the US Congress, by imposing the non-nuclear sanctions, has turned a blind eye on the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and put at risk the successful implementation of the multilateral, international agreement.

He referred to the 'longstanding hostility' of the US Congress toward Iran, and said, 'Iran has acted in compliance with the deal, as acknowledged by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and G5+1.

'So we expect other parties of the deal to fulfill their commitments,' the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Iran has reviewed the bill and found its content against the spirit and letter of the JCPOA, Qasemi said.

'Therefore, as announced earlier, to safeguard its national interests, Iran reserves itself the right to take appropriate reciprocal measures,' he said.

He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as far as its military power and development of missile capabilities are concerned, regards the contents of the US sanction bill as illegal, illegitimate and baseless.

'The principled regional policy followed by Iran has been promoting good neighborliness, safeguarding security, and fighting terrorism,' Qasemi added.

He also said that the missile program of Iran is in accordance to the Resolution 2231, and nothing can stop Iran from pursuing its principled policy of bolstering its defense capabilities.

Qasemi also said the US Congress accuses Iran of destabilizing the region while it was the US that attacked Iraq in 2003, and this I while, it has played an important role in promoting Daesh (ISIS) Takfiri terrorists.

The increase in the level of extremism we witness today in the region is the consequence of uncalculated and irresponsible policies followed by the US and its regional allies, he added.
