Iran highlights role of Astana talks in building peace in Syria

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari in a exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) highlighted the 'consensus among the Astana talks' guarantors' and hoped for restoration of peace to the war-torn country.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 23rd Press Exhibition at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla (grand mosque) in Tehran, Jaberi Ansari, who headed the Iranian delegation in Astana talks, underlined that the battlefield achievements should be used for political resolution of the crisis in Syria.

The diplomat pointed to defeat of Daesh (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq and said that Daesh project “is declining'.

The seventh round of Syria peace talks was held on October 30-31, 2017 in thecapital city of Kazakhstan, Astana, with the aim to maintain results of the consolidated regime of ceasefire in Syria and boost the efforts to pave the way for peace, stability and finding political solution for the Syrian crisis.

Since March 2011, Syria has been suffering from unrest and terrorist acts.

Several rounds of talks have been held on Syria in Astana, Kazakhstan, since January 2017.

Iran, Russia and Turkey are the initiators of ceasefire in Syria and Astana talks.
