IP project most feasible solution to Pakistan’s energy crisis: Pak analyst

In an interview with IRNA, Amjad Shoaib said Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi along with other bilateral issues should also discuss early completion of the IP with President Hassan Rouhani during the meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
“Instead of importing gas from other countries we must complete the IP which is the most feasible and cheapest source of energy for Pakistan,” he pointed out.
He termed the meeting between the two leaders as very important, saying that such meetings help in evolving a consensus on different regional and international issues. “These meetings would also help remove the misunderstandings, if any,” he said.
The analyst added that emerging regional developments demand that the two countries must interact with each other on regular basis and devise a common strategy to tackle the regional issues.
“We enjoy strong brotherly and historic ties with Iran which would further enhance in future,” he said. He added that people of the two countries are also very close to each other and both countries through their close cooperation can deal with the influence of western powers in the region.
Amjad Shoaib noted that Pakistan has always maintained neutrality in its ties with Iran and the Arab states.
The analyst was of the view that the US wants to disturb peace of the region so that it can stay in Afghanistan for longer period. “The neighboring countries of Afghanistan must enhance their cooperation to counter the US aggressive approach in the region,” he said.
He said that peace and stability in Afghanistan, Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, trade and economic ties are the major topics which would be discussed by President Rouhani and Prime Minister Abbasi.
He said that Pakistan should also avail the Iranian offer of 1000 MW of electricity to help counter the power crisis without any further delay.
