COMESA chief: Economic, trade cooperation with Iran essential

Ngwenya also called for establishment of a working committee in cooperation with Iran’s private sector in a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe and Zambia Ahmad Erfanian.

The meeting was held in Lusaka on Monday when Erfanian, also Iran’s representative in KOMESA, presented his credentials to the entity’s chief.

“There are numerous areas of cooperation between COMESA and the Islamic Republic and we are ready to use Iran’s experience in various fields,” Ngwenya said.

Meanwhile, the Iranian diplomat, for his part, referred to friendly ties between Iran and COMESA, stressing the need for promoting economic and trade relations with the entity.

Erfanian further noted that Iran has made remarkable progress in different domains such energy, science and technology, agriculture, mines and pharmaceuticals and is prepared to share its experience with COMESA.

COMESA is a free trade area with twenty member states stretching from Libya to Swaziland.
