Two million Iranian pilgrims in Iraq for Arbaeen rituals

'Given the continued arrival of the Iranian pilgrims, it is predicted that another 300 to 400 thousand others will arrive in Iraq within the next few days,' Masjedi told reporters while visiting Shalamcheh border crossing on the joint Iran-Iraq border.

No security problem has been reported in the way of the Iranian pilgrims, the ambassador said, adding that only a vehicle has capsized leaving three dead, 16 others wounded.

Arbaeen is a mourning ritual observed by Shia Muslims marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) (the grandson of Prophet Mohammad and the third Shia Imam).
