The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) quoted Mohammad Javad Jafari, head of the fifth season of archeological exploration in Rivi Site, North Khorasan, as saying on Tuesday that the most important achievement of the exploration was the emergence of part of a columned hall from the Achaemenid era in the southern side of the ancient site of Rivi.

“During the archaeological research works which started in the ancient Rivi site from 1391 (2012-2013), archeologists have gained access to the settlement remains from the Bronze, Iron Age, the Achaemenid, the Parthian, the Sassanid and the Islamic period,” he added.

“Based on the researches, different architectural and archeological evidence from the Parthian and the Sassanid era were discovered in the Rivi site which indicate the sequence of the settlement in the area in the aftermath of the Achaemenid era,” Jafari noted.

“Concurrent with the archeological group a joint group consisting of geomorphology experts of the Berlin University and University of Yazd launched studies on the Rivi site and its geographical grounds,” Jafari said.

Referring to the archeological research works in the Rivi ancient site jointly between the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department of North Khorasan and the German Archeological Institute since 1394 (2015-2016) with the support of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of the country, Jafari said as regard scientific and tourism importance of the ancient monument, North Khorasan Department and the German Institute had planned a regular program under the title “Rivi Archeological Project” for the exploration and archeological research in the Rivi ancient site.
