Official: Iran seeks larger share of Korean tourist market

Morteza Rahmani Movahed made the remarks in a meeting with South Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism Policy director Huang Mingshan and the Korean UN World Tourism Organization candidate Dho Young-shim on Tuesday.

Pointing to South Korea as one of the countries that sent the most tourists in 2016 to global destinations (22 million tourists), Rahmani Movahed said on Tuesday that Iran with numerous tourist attractions could have a larger share of the market.

He pointed to the “peer to peer” nature of the two countries’ cooperation history, and called the tourism industry the most influential means in promoting the kind of relations and one of the greatest industries in global economy.

Addressing Dho young Shim as the candidate chairwoman of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), he stressed that the organization is in need of a fresh momentum and changing executive policies.

Experienced managers, like her, could bring the organization a promising future, Rahmani Movahed added.

Huang Mingshan, for his part, expressed his country’s eagerness to expand tourism cooperation with Iran.

He described resuming direct flights between Iran and South Korea as the most influential factor in promoting tourism interactions and maintained that Dho Young’s presiding the UNWTO and implementing her plans would contribute to realization of the goal.
