Iranian, French archeologists identify new, Middle Paleolithic layers in central desert

Hamed Vahdati Nasab, head of the third season of archeological exploration in Mirak site in Semnan, was quoted by the Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) as saying on Tuesday that during the operation a large number of caves and rock shelters were inspected.

The site has sequentially taken shape of a lake (marsh) and then dry environment and in dry periods had served as a habitat for human communities up to the end of the Pleistocene period, he said.

Referring to the registration of the remains of the hunted animals, including wild cow, deer and wild horse out of the layers in the site, he said the plan for the renewed inspection and approval of the samples to define the age on the basis of OSL method has been kicked off.
