Iran province pays child laborers to read books

'Based on the program, which is called pay-for-your-study-time, children collected from the streets are given a place at the city libraries to study books, while they are paid the same amount of money they earn for a day labor,' said Arezou Valipour General Director of the Public Libraries in Mazandaran.

'We have told the children that for each hour they spend studying in the library, they will be paid the equivalent amount of money they earn through labor in the streets,' Valipour said.

According to her, the money is paid by benefactors and charity groups.

The child laborers involved in the program can earn seven to eight million Rials (about 175 dollar) each month through reading books.
