He made the remarks in a meeting with Afghan Minister of Guidance, Hajj and Endowment Faiz Mohammad Osmani on Monday.
Salehi hailed numerous historic, civilizational and cultural commonalities between the two countries, saying that the two nations have always had excellent relations.
Iranian nation has been experiencing solidarity with Afghan people in tough times both when the country was colonized by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and when it was grappling with Taliban, he said.
Afghan minister, for his part, said that Iran and Afghanistan have had long-standing ties in many fields, noting that the two countries boast of numerous commonalities, as they need no translator for forging communications with each other.
He voiced his country’s interest to promote ties with Iran and widen the scope of cooperation.
