1st round of Iran-Afghanistan cultural dialogue begins

Prominent participants in the cultural gathering which focuses on mysticism, Sufism and literature were the head of the Culture and Islamic Relations Organization of Iran and a number of university instructors and cultural figures from Iran and Afghanistan.

In this round of cultural dialogue, Iranian and Afghan scholars are to present their essays on the status of mysticism and Sufism in classic literary works, the relationship between literature and mysticism and Sufism in the thought and works of prominent literary figures.

In his keynote speech, chancellor of Kabul University Hamidollah Farooghi described the gathering as a turning point in the history of scientific cooperation between the two countries and as an opportunity for exchange of views.

Also addressing the audience, head of Culture and Islamic Relations Organization of Iran Abuzar Ebrahimi Torkaman said 'Ability to speak is one of man's characteristics and we should know that problems facing the human society can be solved through dialogue.'

Torkaman said the large scale of violence in the region emanates from the extremists' inability to hold talks.

The permanent secretariat of this round of cultural dialogue between Iran and Afghanistan is to be set up in the Kabul University and one of Iranian universities.
